| Subject: How Do You Leanr A Second Language? Mon May 19, 2008 7:22 pm | |
| So we all agree that there are many great reasons to learn a second language. But once you've decided to, how do you do it?
When I was in school, I took 3 years of Spanish, and learned about a year's worth. And that was ten years ago, give or take two years. I'd like to get that knowledge back, and then some. And the ex-opera singer in me would like to learn Italian and maybe French, the nerd in me would like to learn more Latin, and the supernerd in me would like to learn Japanese (I wish).
But one step at a time.
Since I already have some basics in Spanish, I had the idea of finding a forum, and get some Actual Conversation under my belt, or at the very least, read some Actual Covnersation, and glean knowledge that way until I gather the courage to dip my toe in the ocean. Of course, the instant problem was that I didn't know enough Spanish to find a forum, let alone being able to tell if it was one worth reading if I had.
So, being a grad student , I am perpetually broke. So how, on a budget, do I relearn Spanish (I still have my Spanish-English dictionary! )? And after that, how would I learn languages that I have no background in? _________________ HAPPY TO BE A PROUD MEMBER OF NERDSWORLD
