I spent ages writing some tips for my mate a few days ago, being new to

PC's and downloading and the internet. I always thought it was a good

idea to have a tips for beginners type thread in here I just

never could be arsed to write it, so since I've already done some, I

figured I'd post them and people can add their own tips. I haven't

wrote anything on torrents so if someone fancies writing a few tips

How To Use the YouTube/Movie Feature

On YouTube every single video has a code in the url. In order to embed

the video here on BD you need to copy and paste the code after the

equal sign "=" and put it in between the YouTube tags.

For Instance...

When you Click, "Post Reply" on the upper right hand corner there will

Wow...I knew this game would be great, but I had no idea how

great...The multiplayer is fun as hell with TONS of game modes...Even

when I get my ass handed to me, which is often on the maps I don't

know, I still have a blast...

I do have a complaint about single player...Well, two...One, there is a

level in which you use an aerial gun ship to kill a bunch of enemies on

the ground...It's pretty boring considering what comes before it...And

the missions are way too short...I blow ...

I have nearly finished 'Kingdom Keepers' a second time. Loved it even better on the second read.

The author said you have to read a book at least twice. I really never

reads books more than once, but I had to when my mom told me to read a book. How do you people feel about reading more than once. And what is a book you

How Do You Leanr A Second Language?

So we all agree that there are many great reasons to learn a second language. But once you've decided to, how do you do it?

When I was in school, I took 3 years of Spanish, and learned

about a year's worth. And that was ten years ago, give or take two

years. I'd like to get that knowledge back, and then some. And the

ex-opera singer in me would like to learn Italian and maybe French, the

nerd in me would like to learn more Latin, and the supernerd in me would

like to learn Japanese ...

Nautical Slang

I was wondering about the origins of the phrase

"ship-shape and Bristol fashion", so I did some searching for Nautical

slang and metaphor. Turns out there's quite a lot of it, and there's

even a book on it, When a Loose Cannon Flogs a Dead Horse There's the Devil to Pay.

What's even funnier is how some Nautical terms appear in Space:

"astern", "the brig", "Captain's Log". I suppose a ship is a ship, even

when there's no water.

V.I.P. or course stands for Very Important Person.

However; when you are hosting an event at which more than one person is very important (as I'm sure all of you do), how should we refer to these people?

Each one is a Very Important Person (V.I.P.) so collectively they should be Very Important People; which surely would abbreviate to V.I.P.

Alternatively they may be referred to as Very Important Persons, which would also abbreviate to V.I.P.

This is a question I was able to ask Ray Bradbury, Ray Harryhausen and Forrest J. Ackerman (the man who coined the phrase "Sci Fi") at the 2005 San Diego Comic Con, and I am interested in your responses.
